🐦 Uncle Jesse is coming to town

Also: How to stay safe during hurricane season

Welcome to Just Outside DC — the only newsletter that you kinda love to read. And guess what? We love you too 💌

Today’s factoid of the day is: In 1872, Ulysses S. Grant was pulled over and fined $20 for going over the speed limit … on a horse.

Carl’s Corner

Well folks, I may be the greatest writer of all time (insert humbleness here).

100% percent of you loved the write-up I did last week.

My dad was so proud of me that he started crying tears of joy after reading the article for himself:

My boss has let me do another newsletter for the fourth week in a row.

And this time… I’ve been promoted to senior deputy coordinator of content marketing strategy (NoVA job titles am I right?)

So, there’s gonna be some changes around here. Today, we’re trying a new format.

Just live events and quick hits, no big idea this time.

Let us know what you think of this new format using the poll at the bottom of this post.

Let’s get to it.

Reader Restaurant Recommendation: One of our readers, Beth, recommends you guys check out Euro Bistro in Herndon.

Beth says it’s a wonderful fusion of Austrian and Asian flavors and dishes. This place is always reliable in providing a tasty meal year in and year out.

If you want us to give you, your town, and your favorite NoVA restaurant a shout out in the newsletter, just use this fancy little form :)

QUICK HITS

LIVE EVENT LOWDOWN

@JUSTOUTSIDEDC 📸

One of our readers, Lance, is always sending us videos of the wildlife from around his yard. People around the office have been calling him Snow White because he seems to be BFFs with all the woodland creatures. We should probably hire him as our in-house wildlife photographer or something.

Anyway, this time he sent us this cute video from one of his new bird houses. He captured a momma blue bird warming up her eggs 🐣

If you’ve got a cool pic or vid from around the DMV area, feel free send it our way via email or Instagram and we’ll put it in the newsletter!

Thank You!
