United States National Museum of the Marine Corps preserve Corps history and heritage. The National Museum of the Marine Corps is located right off of Route 1 in Triangle, Virginia near Quantico, Virginia. Admission and parking is free.

Entry on Route 1 into the Marine Corps National Museum campus
0.10 mile: Marine Corps Base at Quantico, Virginia (left turn at the Joplin/Fuller Road and Route 1
traffic light)
0.30 mile: fast food eateries

miles: Rite Aid Pharmacy (on the right). On the left side of Route 1: 7-11, doughnuts, pizza and a bank
At 3.2 miles on the left: Wal Mart, AppleBee's, Ruby Tuesday
3.6 miles: Giant food store, River Oaks Mall
7.2 miles: Left turn onto Opitz Blvd to reach Potomac Hospital and Potomac Mills indoor discount shopping mall
8.0 miles: Potomac Hospital (right hand side of road). This is on Opitz Blvd. Note I-95 has an exit/entry
immediately past the hospital.
8.5 miles: After
crossing over I-95, go through the Opitz Blvd and Telegraph Road intersection, and Potomac Mills indoor mall
is on the right hand side. Numerous other satellite shopping malls and
individual stores are on the left hand side of Opitz Blvd. Note Opitz Blvd. turns into Smoketown Road just past this interestion.
General comments:
Numerous motels and hotels, cottage industries abound along Route 1.
Headed north on Route 1, other places to visit and chill out with shopping, dining or nature.
5.1 miles: The Leesylvania State Park (Neabsco Road, right turn off Rt. 1). Picnic areas can be
reserved. See their website for information.
13 miles: The town of Occoquan. (Occoquan Road, Route 253, left turn off Rt. 1)
Occoquan is a neat, quaint town nestled along a waterway leading into the Belmont Bay.
14 miles: The Pohick Bay Regional Park (Gunston Road, right turn off Rt. 1.) This park
has over 100 shaded picnic sites throughout its 1000 acres. It borders Pohick Bay which leads out to the Potomac River. Fort Belvoir Military Reservation is
directly across Pohick Bay.
Continue along Gunston Road (through Pohick Bay Regional Park) to the 2277 acres of Mason Neck National
Wildlife Refuge. A bird lovers delight is found among mature forest, freshwater marshes and over 4 miles of shoreline.
