Brookside Gardens has two gift shops at which you can purchase tickets for the special exhibits such as the Wings of Fancy and the winter time Garden of Lights.

The Wings of Fancy indoor exhibit is held in the south conservatory. Strollers have to be left outside. Wheelchairs are, of course, allowed inside.

The day we were there, strollers were parked near the conservatory's doorway.

You enter through the dual set of doors into the south conservatory during the Wings of Fancy exhibit. A park employee gives a brief butterfly's lifecyle talk, then allows visitors to enter a few at a time to ensure no butterflies escape.

Getting a feel of the large room I took in the netted ceiling and the light mist that nearly continously sprays down onto humans, plants and butterflies.
I felt a light touch, looked down and a butterfly was resting on my extended hand.

What a mingle of activity. Steady lines of humans moving along the pathway, looking at butterflies above, around and often on you. Butterflies hitch hiking
The gift shop sells a color pamphlet of butterfly photos, names, brief info, plus within the Wing of Fancy exhibit there is a display board featuring those butterflies currently flying about you in this exhibit.

Below are photos we snapped.  To see the full-size images and also large views of the What is Flying Today Board click here.

For the butterfly photos below I used the What is Flying Today Board and the web to best determine the names of the butterflies, so some of the names may be wrong. Putting your cursor on the photo will show you the names.

It is quite worth the moment it takes to click here to view the larger photos. For example notice how much more detail you see in the photo below when compared to the same photo above, which is the last of the shown small butterfly images.
