Several times a dreary winter day's need for a tropical moment has brought us to visit Brookside's conservatory
in search of bright patches of flowering plants underneath the large palms, ferns and banana trees.
The conservatory is near the parking lot at the 1800 Glenallan Avenue entrance into Brookside Gardens.
Entering the north conservatory, to your right is a gift shop and to your left are bathrooms and a water fountain.
Going a short distance further back in the building you enter the tropical garden.
Immediately to your left begins the collection of arid plants.

Along the paver style walkway that makes an oval circuit around the more permanent plantings, you will find flowering plants.
About mid-way back you will find a quiet sitting area of benches and steps up to the rest of the collections. To the left of the benches is an inviting low slope bridge.
The day we were there a pretty display of Bird of Paradise framed one side of the bridgeway with ferns hugging the other side. This bridgeway can be used by personal
wheeled vehicles to avoid the steps that you see in the photo above.
The banana tree area leads into a gentle corner of water pathway and foliage plantings.
